Real-time monitoring of ethene/1-hexene copolymerizations: determination of catalyst activity, copolymer composition and copolymerization parameters

چکیده
High-throughput development of catalysts, initiators, and polymeric materials combines automated parallel catalyst synthesis and automated polymerization reactors. The reactors can be additionally equipped with on-line monitoring (ReactIR from Mettler) based on ATR-FT-IR technique. This powerful tool has proven to be a very valuable probe for high-throughput experiments. During copolymerizations of ethene and 1-hexene monomers, the ReactIR was used to monitor the 1-hexene conversion as well as polymer formation, polymer concentration, and polymer composition. This gives access to information on catalyst activity, activation and deactivation times of the catalyst, polymerization kinetics, copolymerization parameters, and the degree of homogeneity of the resulting copolymers. The technology is especially useful for solution copolymerization. The spectrometer can be applied in the lab as well as in pilot plants and production facilities where rapid on-line analyses are useful for product quality control. q 2003 Elsevier Ltd. Copolymerization of propene with low amounts of ethene in propene bulk phase
Propene homopolymers and propene–ethene copolymers with small amount of ethene were synthesized using three catalyst systems [pCH3OPh2C(2,7-diBuFlu)(Cp)]ZrCl2/Me2HNPh][B(C6F5)4] (Cat I), [p-CH3OPh2C(2,7-diBuFlu)(Cp)]ZrCl2/[Ph3C][B(C6F5)4] (Cat II) and [p-CH3OPh2C(2,7-diBuFlu)(Cp)]ZrCl2/MAO (Cat III) in propene bulk phase. The activity of the catalyst was dependent on the formed ion pair: Cat I ...
متن کاملImido-modified SiO2-supported Ti/Mg Ziegler-Natta catalysts for ethylene polymerization and ethylene/1-hexene copolymerization
A novel imido-modified SiO2-supported Ti/Mg Ziegler-Natta catalyst for ethylene and ethylene/1-hexene polymerization is investigated. The catalyst is prepared by modification of (SiO2/MgO/MgCl2)TiClx Ziegler-Natta catalysts via supporting vanadium species followed by reaction with p-tolyl isocyanate as imido agents, to get the merits from both the SiO2-supported imido vanadium catalyst and the ...
متن کاملInterplay of reversible chain transfer and comonomer incorporation reactions in coordination copolymerization of ethylene/1–hexene
Coordinative chain transfer polymerization (CCTP) has opened a new path for the development of novel products like olefin block copolymers and chain-end functional polyolefins. However, conflicting results are frequently reported on the catalyst performance including activity and comonomer selectivity under CCTP conditions. Here we have selected two catalysts including rac-ethylenebis(1-η5-inde...
متن کاملCopolymerization of Vinyl Chloride by Organometallic Compounds
ABSTRACT The copolymerizations of vinyl chloride with o-olefin or acrylic compounds were investigated with organometallic compounds as catalysts. In general, organoaluminium compounds need to be treated with a complexing agent such as tetrahydrofuran prior to use. Otherwise the former reacts with polyvinyl chloride and loses its activity. The copolymer of vinyl chloride and propylene was thus o...
متن کاملStatistical Ring Opening Metathesis Copolymerization of Norbornene and Cyclopentene by Grubbs' 1st-Generation Catalyst.
Statistical copolymers of norbornene (NBE) with cyclopentene (CP) were prepared by ring-opening metathesis polymerization, employing the 1st-generation Grubbs' catalyst, in the presence or absence of triphenylphosphine, PPh₃. The reactivity ratios were estimated using the Finemann-Ross, inverted Finemann-Ross, and Kelen-Tüdos graphical methods, along with the computer program COPOINT, which eva...
